5 Arrested In Burglary Of $30K In Instruments, Music Equipment: SRPD

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Five people have been arrested in connection with the burglary of a musicians' co-op in Santa Rosa during which $30,000 worth of instruments and equipment was stolen, police said.

The Santa Rosa Police Department was notified Feb. 3 about the burglary at Live Musician's Co-op on Piner Road. The owner arrived at the co-op in the morning and discovered it was burglarized.

A community service officer took the initial report, checked for physical evidence, and contacted the SRPD Property Crime Team. No suspects were initially identified, police said.

On Feb. 17, the owner found some of the stolen items being stolen online and reported the information to the detectives who were working the case.

Detectives identified the suspect, confirmed the items were stolen, and found the suspect in Petaluma. Later that day, detectives arrested Jarred Esquiro, a 35-year-old man from San Rafael. It is alleged that Esquiro was in possession of several items stolen from the co-op (instruments and music equipment).

Esquiro was on county probation for a prior attempted burglary and was required to submit to searches by law enforcement. It is alleged that in a search of his San Rafael residence, detectives found more property stolen from the co-op, as well as evidence about other suspects.

Esquiro remained in custody without bail Monday at Sonoma County jail. He was initially booked into jail Feb. 17 on suspicion of two counts of possession of stolen property, possession of a dirk or dagger, and violation of probation.

On Feb. 21, after identifying the people believed to be responsible for the burglary, detectives searched a search warrant at a motel in the 3100 block of Cleveland Avenue in Santa Rosa. Contacted during the search were Corey Crabtree, a 37-year-old Santa Rosa woman, and Jeremiah Gasaiwai, a 32-year-old Santa Rosa man.

It is alleged that additional stolen property and evidence from the burglary was located at the motel. Additionally, Gasaiwai is a convicted felon and was in possession of cocaine and a ghost gun, police said.

Detectives then served a search warrant at Gasaiwai's residence in the 500 block of Mission Avenue in Santa Rosa, where police said more stolen property from the co-op burglary was found, along with a shotgun and a rifle.

Crabtree was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of felony burglary, conspiracy to commit a felony crime, and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance paraphernalia.

Gasaiwai was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy to commit a felony crime, felony possession of stolen property, felony convicted felony in possession of a firearm and numerous other firearm and narcotic possession offenses. His bail was set at $70,000 and he has since been released from custody, jail records show.

Through the investigations, detectives learned about another suspect in Rohnert Park who may have more of the stolen property. The following day, detectives served a search warrant at a residence in the 7700 block of Camino Colegio in Rohnert Park. Detectives contacted Banessa Soto-Hernandez, a 36-year-old Rohnert Park woman, and her roommate, Robert Sheehan II a 56-year-old Rohnert Park man.

During the search, detectives found more stolen property and discovered Sheehan was aware the property was stolen and assisted with trying to sell it, police said.

It is alleged that detectives also found methamphetamine and two handguns in Sheehan's possession.

Soto-Hernandez was arrested and booked into Sonoma County jail on suspicion of felony burglary, felony conspiracy to commit a crime, and felony possession of stolen property.

Sheehan was arrested and booked into Sonoma County jail on suspicion of possession of stolen property, felony possession of a controlled substance and a firearm, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

"This investigation took nearly three weeks and SRPD Property Crime detectives still have additional follow-up to conduct," SRPD police Sgt. Christopher Mahurin said. "Detectives were able to locate more than half of the stolen property, arrested five people, seized narcotics, and seized five firearms from people who shouldn't have firearms (one ghost gun, two handguns, one rifle and one shotgun).
