Firm donates gas detector to Nesquehoning Hose Co. – Times News Online

The EMD Electronics’ facility in Hometown recently donated a gas meter to Nesquehoning Hose Company to significantly bolster the department’s gas detection capabilities and enhance its readiness and efficiency in handling hazardous situations.

Spearheaded by Gene Kennedy, a production supervisor and emergency response team member at EMD Electronics and the Nesquehoning Borough zoning and land development officer, the donation included an MSA Altair 4xR Gas Meter, a calibration system and other essential components.

The advanced equipment is designed to detect and measure critical gases such as oxygen, carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulfide, ensuring that firefighters have reliable and accurate tools for their safety and operational needs.

Kennedy, known for his active involvement in both his professional and local communities, recognized the importance of equipping Nesquehoning Hose Company with updated gas detection technology.

“As the Borough of Nesquehoning zoning and land development officer, I was approached by Fire Chief John P. McArdle at a planning commission meeting,” Kennedy said. “He had inquired about the possibility of the department receiving a donation of gas detection equipment, as the Hometown facility had made a previous donation in 2015. I passed the request on to Karl Nolte, EMD Electronics site director, who promptly agreed to assist the department with their needs.”

The donation was officially received by McArdle, who expressed gratitude on behalf of the firefighters.

“Volunteer fire companies rely heavily on donations, especially like the multigas meter EMD Electronics provided us,” the chief said. “This adds another safety item to our toolbox. Many of our citizens use fossil fuels to heat their homes, which give off carbon monoxide, and, at times, places firefighters in harm’s way trying to locate the source.

“We rely on tools like this to help detect harmful gas and high combustible limits.”

The contribution reflects a broader commitment by EMD Electronics to fostering a safe and supportive environment both at their facility and within the community, the company said.

By equipping local first responders with cutting-edge tools, the company is contributing to enhancing public safety and ensuring that emergency responders are well-prepared to tackle any challenge that comes their way.
