Plug sold at Wickes recalled due to fears it may spark fires

Remote control plugs sold by SMJ Electrical and Wickes since 2007 have been recalled due to risks they could overheat and catch fire

AN urgent recall has been issued for remote control plugs sold by SMJ Electrical and Wickes over fears they may cause fires.

The affected products have been on sale since 2007.

SMJ Electrical has said that the products can overheat when overloaded, causing the casing to melt. This can lead to a fire or lead to live components to be exposed.

The company is advising customers to unplug and stop using these products immediately.

Electrical Safety First strongly recommends that anyone who discovers they have an electrical item that has been recalled should stop using it until it has been checked by the manufacturer.

The Sun has contacted Wickes for a comment.

To get a refund, SMJ Electrical is advising customers to return the faulty plus to where they were purchased.

A statement on the website read: "SMJ Electrical strives to supply safe, quality products at all times and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
