10 New Electric Crossovers With The Best Predicted Reliability Ratings
Crossovers are a growing trend in new car sales. Here, we present reliability outlooks for new 2023 EV crossovers.
In recent years, electric cars are increasingly offered as crossovers. What is a crossover exactly? It's a little murky. For the most part, a crossover is larger than a sedan, smaller than a full-size SUV, and approximately the size of a wagon. To the point, the number of new crossovers is expected to rise. The style is growing in popularity with consumer tastes. By 2018, the crossover segment had grown to 40 percent of the market, despite it was virtually unheard of two decades ago.
Fuel efficiency concerns may be increasing desirability for crossovers. Especially compared with large SUVs that continue to swell in size. Any way you look at it, the trend is expected to grow significantly. It is no surprise EV manufacturers are gravitating toward the crossover style. Especially since this model size ideally suits the limitations of EV vehicles. It's clear that the crossover EV is a growing trend, including in new electric car sales. But just how reliable are they?
For predicted reliability ratings, we consulted Consumer Reports (CR). Findings are based on the organization's extensive Annual Auto Survey of 17 common issues. Monthly payment estimates are based on average financing and Kelley Blue Book (KBB) Fair Purchase Price.
The Kia EV6 reigns at the top of the Consumer Reports annual report. It has both a high reliability and high overall score. The snazzy crossover receives a "recommended" distinction as well as a 91 overall score. This is the highest score awarded in the 2023 CR car buying guide. Only the 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid rivals with a 90.
For reliability, the Kia EV6 has the best possible predicted outlook. This car is highly regarded because it has great handling, advance safety, and it was built from the ground up as an electric car. Many people appreciate that the EV6 comes in a GT, putting its sporty suspension to good use. With a 310-mile range, its specs are on par with a Tesla Model Y, yet less refined than other luxury brands.
The 2023 Genesis GV60 fell into the good graces of CR reviewers, as it has across the board. It's sporty and well-heeled with an array of premium tech and desirable features. All-wheel drive is standard, handling is comfortable, and it is one of the best EVs offered. As part of Hyundai's luxury line, the Genesis GV60 likewise has speedy charging capability. High-tech includes fingerprint to start and keyless facial recognition entry.
The Genesis GV60 gets a midrange reliability score. It was rated with average predicted reliability based on its brand history. It shares components with Kia and Hyundai vehicles, and so reliability is calculated with those considerations. This vehicle has two recalls from the NHTSA. One for seatbelts and another for a driveshaft fracture potentiality. The recall fixes the problem under warranty.

With the seats flat, this vehicle boasts 63.7 cubic feet of cargo space. The top trim comes with an array of premium perks, like an automatic hatchback, dual climate control, 360-degree camera, and a sunroof. You’ll find those upgrades in the Kia Niro EV Wave, starting at $44,550. The entry option is the Niro EV Wind, starting at $39,550. The luxury-feel of the interior attracts the attention of buyers and reviewers. For example, two aesthetically attractive 10.25-inch screens are mounted with a curvature across the dash, one is a touchscreen. These are among the items with a premium feel that make the Kia feel more expensive than it is.
Consumer Reports gave their top predicted reliability honors to the Kia EV6, five out of five. But when the Kia Niro EV was reviewed, it was given an average reliability score. If one looks elsewhere, however, the 2023 Kia Niro EV is considered the most reliable EV one can buy. The folks over at Motor Biscuit cited Leaf Score's high rating of the Niro EV, naming it "7 Most Reliable Electric Vehicles for 2023." KBB gave it a 4.5 rating. CR's own customer surveys, too, rated this car a five out of five. An exceptional number of recalled vehicles is affecting Kia's CR rating. The issues were serious too - faulty wiring causing fires. But so far, the Kia Niro EV has zero recalls and a generous five-year warranty. It should be a safe bet.

The 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a recommended buy from the car division of the consumer advocacy organization. It did very well on the road-test. Thanks to its 235 kW adaptability, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a perfect road tripper.
Reliability for the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 crossover is based on the 2022 model. CR gave this vehicle an average reliability rating. It is on par with average new vehicles. J.D. Power rated the new Ioniq crossover average in reliability as well, giving it a score of 73. These reliability estimates are predictive. However, the ratings should be read in light of Hyundai's industry-leading comprehensive warranty. Hyundai's standard battery warranty covers all electronic powertrain components. Added to that, is a 7-year rust and corrosion warranty. The company guarantees reliability.
The 2023 Tesla Model Y is on the large side as a crossover. It walks the line between full-fledged premium SUV and the more recently popular crossover-size vehicle. The top trim can seat up to seven people. While the five-seater has 72.1 cubic feet of cargo space. The long range AWD EV is considered a luxury crossover. As such, the new Model Y starts well over $50,000.
Reliability is rated lower than the other 2023 crossovers we’ve looked at. CR says the 2023 Model Y will be less reliable than the average new car. It is based on reliability statistics of the last three model years, including publicized problems the electric car maker has faced. Despite all this, the Tesla Y is ranked high in customer satisfaction, which generally indicates good reliability. Over at J.D. Power, predicted reliability of the Tesla Model Y is brighter. It received a respectable 73 for quality and reliability. Not to mention, it received a 9.0 for performance and an exceptional 9.9 for safety. So are Tesla's reliability issues a thing of the past? A new study from Tesla shows the company is taking future reliability seriously. Namely, it is putting the Tesla Models S, 3, X, and Y through extreme weather testing program. Tesla YouTube channel gives a rundown of the program by field engineers in Dubai. They describe the rugged trials the EVs go through. This quality control program puts the electric vehicles through both harsh heat and freezing cold weather.

The 2023 Audi Q4 E-Tron is every bit the luxury car it is supposed to be.
The Audi Q4 E-Tron is built on the Volkswagen ID.4 platform. Its impetus comes from a 82-kWh battery pack with fast charging capability. Reliability, however, is lower than average by the estimation of our exalted car guide authors. Owner satisfaction is higher than average. Actual reliability, of course, is yet to be seen.

A reliability rating on the 2023 Nissan Ariya is not yet determined. CR's data samples are not large enough to aggregate. The 2023 Toyota bZ4X is a new crossover EV by the Japanese automaker that brought the bulletproof Prius hybrid into the world. In fact, the bZ4X is the company's only all-electric vehicle in the US. Having said that, the bZ4X was recalled promptly into its 2022 launch because of wheels that could fall off the car at any time. The company said it resolved the issue. Another interesting aspect about the bX4X is that it shares production, and recall woes, with a new electric Subaru, the Solterra. CR does like the crossover's optional BlueCruise menu. It features Co-Pilot360, smart driver-assist technology that can take control of the wheel and brake when a driver is distracted. The Mach-E is all about high-tech gadgetry and a sleek and innovative interior. A large 15.5-inch infotainment touchscreen is not the only digital display. The driver's paired smartphone can remote-open the trunk and doors. Horsepower options are plenty. Standard starts at 266-hp. AWD gets 311-hp. Premium offers up to 346-hp and 428-lb. ft. Mach-E GT and GT Performance get you up to 480-hp and 600-lb. ft. It's not a real Mustang, and it doesn't try to be. It gets an equivalent of 90 miles per gallon on the highway. Range maxes out at about 312 miles.
Granted, the 2023 Ford Mach-E was rated with a less than average predicted reliability score by CR. It signaled a drop in CR's 2021 Mustang Mach-E rating. Software, battery, and overheating issues affected the 2021 and 2022 Mach-E's predicted reliability. It has been proving itself. It should be pointed out that there is an eight-year warranty on electrical components. Things may be looking up. Motor Trend named the Mach-E the third-best 2023 electric SUV. KBB gave the Mach-E a 4.6 review. Once mortified by a teething issues like major build failures, the 2023 Mustang Mach-E seems to be coming into its own.

Off-road capabilities include trademark symmetrical all-wheel drive plus dual electric motors. It also comes with Subaru's superlative advanced safety features and drive assist.
The 2023 Solterra shares a wheel recall with the Toyota bZ4X as production is shared at the same plant. Both concern hub bolts that were improperly tightened, risking wheels detaching. Likewise, the two crossovers share design and build features. Although, the Subaru EV is an upgrade compared with its near twin in the Toyota bZ4X. Premium is the base trim in the Solterra. Edmunds recommends it over the base trim bZ4X. CR gives the 2023 Solterra subcompact SUV a recommended buy. Additionally, it points out Subaru vehicles consistently rank in the top-10. The new EV by Subaru gets an average reliability rating. On the upside, it offers above average warranty coverage.
