New hydrogen pressure transmitter AST H2 announced by AMSYS | Engineer Live

With hydrogen growing in importance in the energy world, it has become more important to offer products that support hydrogen usage. The AST2000 and AST4000 provide two options of pressure transducers specifically for the application of hydrogen. Suitable for use in fuel cells, hydrogen storage tanks and filling stations, the devices are EC79-certified.

A single piece of stainless steel is used to create the product, which does not use welding or oil filling to avoid inclusions and leaks in the device.

These devices are versatile as they can operate on two different voltage outputs, those being 5V and 4.5V ratiometric, and are usable in both mobile and stationary applications. It operates with an accuracy of +/-0.25% and is suitable for pressures between 0 and 448 bar.

The transmitters are in accordance with EN60067 to ensure shock resistance as well as EN60068 to ensure vibration resistance.

The transmitters are also IP-66 protected to ensure usage between temperatures of 0°C and 85°C. Conformity to EU regulation EC79 for use in hydrogen-powered vehicles also gives added versatility.

A single piece of AISI 316L stainless steel is precision machined into shape for the diaphragm. This includes the threaded mount. This eliminates the need for welding, as the 2200 bar burst pressure removes weak spots and any potential leaks for the H2 molecules to escape from.

Pressure equalisation using an oil-filled cavity is not required for this device, as hydrogen cannot pass into an unventilated cavity, making this practice redundant.
